GREAT BARRIER RACE WEEKEND 2010 NOTICE OF RACE

 

1. ORGANISING AUTHORITY

The race shall be under the control of the Weiti Boating Club Sailing Committee, & their appointed Race Officers.

 

2. RULES

The race will be governed by the I.S.A.F. Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions of Yachting New Zealand, & the sailing instructions.

 

3. ELIGIBILITY

The race is open to all keel yachts & multihulls registered with & affiliated to YNZ, & complying with YNZ Safety Regulations 2009 - 2012 Part II, Category 4.  In addition, all boats must complete & comply with the required safety declaration form.  There will be a pre-race briefing on Friday 5th February, 7.30 p.m. at WBC.  At least one crew member from each boat must attend the briefing to be eligible to compete.

 

4. DIVISIONS

There is one division for this event.  Extras may be flown.  All boats must display the white division flag.

 

5. ENTRIES

Entry & safety declaration forms shall be completed in full & sent with entry fees to:  The Secretary, P.O. Box 207, Whangaparaoa, or given to the race organiser by 5 February 2010.  The race fee is $20.  Entry forms are available at the WBC Clubhouse or from the “forms” page of the WBC website.

7. THE START

The starting line will be at Arkles Bay between the start boat & a buoy laid for the purpose. (Vertical red marks on Weiti Patrol rocket launcher indicate position where line is measured from) Races will be started by using the following signals.  Times will be taken from the visual signals; the absence of a sound signal shall be disregarded.

8. THE FINISH

The finishing line will be an imaginary line between 36 11.069 S Latitude, 175 17.856 E Longitude & 36.11.282 S Latitude, 175 18.189 E Longitude.  Entrants shall record their own time at the finish with their GPS.  Please ensure your GPS is set to the correct time.  Give your finish time to the race officer as soon as possible after the finish.

 

9. SCORING

The WBC Handicapping System utilising TCF will be used.  There will be no differentiation between boats with or without extras.  Results will be displayed at the WBC Clubhouse within a week.

 

10. INSPECTIONS

Boats may be inspected, before or after the race, for compliance with safety standards at the discretion of the Sailing Committee or Race Officer of WBC.  Boats not complying with the safety standards will be refused entry or disqualified.

 

11. CHANGE TO THE SAILING INSTRUCTIONS/CANCELLATIONS

Any change to the Sailing Instructions e.g. destination change or cancellation, will be posted 2 hours before the start of the race on the WBC Info Line ph 424-4452.  The Race Officer may change the destination if the weather outlook makes passage to/from Great Barrier Island imprudent.

 

12. PROTEST PROCEDURE

For protests where only a rule of Part 2 is alleged to have been broken an arbitration hearing will be offered prior to any formal hearing.   Otherwise protests shall be as per RRS 2009 - 2012.  Protests shall be lodged on forms available from the Clubhouse.  Completed forms & a fee of $10.00 shall be lodged with the WBC Sailing Committee no later than the end of the first business day following the race.  Mailing address:  WBC, P.O. 13. COMMUNICATIONS

Boats must approach the start boat & signify their intention to race.  Any boat withdrawing after starting shall inform the Race Officer, either directly or via another racing boat.  The start boat “Weiti Patrol” will use VHF Ch 77.  When Code Flag L is displayed, boats should approach for oral instructions or call on Ch 77.  Boats may communicate amongst themselves during the race, using VHF or cell phones.  When north of Tiri Island Channel VHF Ch 1 should be used for boat to boat communications.

 

14. DISCLAIMER

The Weiti Boating Club (Inc) & their sponsors disclaim any & every responsibility for damage that might occur to persons & property both on shore & at sea as a consequence of participating in any way in this race.  The decision to start or continue to participate in the race shall be the sole responsibility of the skipper concerned.  RRS Fundamental Rule 4 shall be borne in mind at all times.

15. DINNER

7.00 p.m. on Sunday 7th February at The Boat Club, Fitzroy Harbour.  It is advisable to book at least a week in advance to ensure you are catered for.  You will settle your own account at the restaurant.

 

16. PRIZEGIVING

The prizegiving will be held at the Clubhouse on 22 May 2010.
