SUMMER CRUISING SERIES 2007 - 2008 NOTICE OF RACE

 

1. ORGANISING AUTHORITY  All races shall be under the control of the Weiti Boating Club Sailing Committee and its appointed Race Officers.

2. RULES  The races will be governed by the I.S.A.F. Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions of Yachting New Zealand, and these sailing instructions.

3. ELIGIBILITY  Races are open to all keelyachts, multihulls and trailer yachts registered with and affiliated to YNZ, and complying with YNZ  Safety Regulations Part II, Category 4 (Keelyachts & Multihulls), or Part V, Category A (Traileryachts).  In addition, all boats must be equipped with a VHF radio and a dinghy.  Dinghies may be towed or stowed aboard.

4. CLASSES  Boats will race in one class.  Handicapping will be in accordance with the WBC handicapping system.  Races 2, 4 & 7 will be Mark Foy.  Extras are not permitted.  All boats shall display a purple class flag.

5. ENTRIES  Entry forms shall be completed in full and sent with entry fees to The Secretary, P.O. Box 207 Whangaparaoa, or placed in the entry box in the Clubhouse by 12 October 2007.  Individual race entries/payments must be received before the start of each race.  Fees are $50 for series or $10 per race.  Only series entrants will be eligible for series points.  Entry forms are available at the Clubhouse or from the “forms” page of the WBC website.

6. SCHEDULE OF RACES and COURSES

Note 1.           Preferred destinations shown above may be subject to change.  Courses will be chosen on the day of the race from the following list.  Mark Foy races will be chosen the day before the race.  Course number will be displayed on the start boat.

Note  2.          Races could be shortened depending on weather.  Listen VHF Ch 77.

Note 3.           After racing for 3 hours (4 hrs in Race 8) any boat may, after advising the race Officer or the finish boat, motor to the finish.  Any such boat that finishes within the time limit will be scored after any boat finishing under sail and in the reverse order of starting to motor.

7. FAIRWAY MARK   Boats must pass to seaward of Wellington Reef.

8. THE START   All WBC races will start at Arkles Bay.  Combined races will start off Gulf Harbour.  The starting line will be between the start boat and a buoy laid for the purpose.  (Vertical red marks on Weiti Patrol rocket launcher indicate position where line is measured from).

Races will be started by using the following signals.  Times will be taken from the visual signals; the absence of a sound signal shall be disregarded.

During Mark Foy events, boats with more than 5 minutes to wait shall keep clear of boats in the start area manoeuvring for prior starts.  Individual boat’s start times for Mark Foy events will be displayed on the noticeboard in the Clubhouse or on the club website.

 

9. THE FINISH  The finishing line will be at a location as indicated on the List of  Courses.  If the Committee boat is not at the finish, the first boat to finish is requested to drop anchor, make itself conspicuous as possible and record the finishing times of all other boats racing.  If no boat is on station then entrants shall record their own time at the finish and inform the Race Officer.  Races may have an alternative destination, to be advised on the day, if the weather conditions warrant a change of course.

10. SCORING  Low Points Scoring System as defined in the R.R.S.  Appendix A will be used, except that Mark Foy races and one other will be discarded from Gloaming Trophy.  Series results will be displayed at the Clubhouse and on the club website.

11. INSPECTIONS  Boats may be inspected for compliance with safety standards at the discretion of the Sailing Committee.

12. CHANGE OF SAILING INSTRUCTIONS/CANCELLATIONS  Any change to the Sailing Instructions  e.g. cancellations, will be posted 2 hours before the start of the scheduled race on the Club Info Line ph 424-4452 and on noticeboard at Clubhouse.

13. PROTEST PROCEDURE  For protests where only a rule of Part 2 is alleged to have been broken an arbitration hearing will be offered prior to any formal hearing.   Otherwise protests shall be as per YNZ RRS 2005 - 2008.  Protests shall be lodged on forms available from the Clubhouse.  Completed forms & a fee of $10.00 shall be lodged with the WBC Sailing Committee no later than the end of the first business day following the race.  Mailing address:  WBC, P.O. 14. COMMUNICATIONS  Boats must approach the start boat and inform of their intention to race.  Any boat withdrawing after starting shall inform the Race Officer, either directly or via another racing boat.  The start boat “Weiti Patrol” will use VHF Ch 77. When Code Flag L is displayed, boats should approach for oral instructions or call on Ch 77.  For safety reasons boats may communicate amongst themselves during the race, using Ch 77.

15. SHORTENING AND ABANDONMENT  Notice of shortening or abandonment may be given by hailing boats within earshot and by broadcasting on VHF Ch 77.  This changes Rule 32.1

16. DISCLAIMER  The Weiti Boating Club Inc. and its sponsors disclaim any and every responsibility for damage that might occur to persons and property both on shore and at sea as a consequence of participating in any way in these races.  The decision to start or continue to participate in a race shall be the sole responsibility of the skipper concerned.

17. AFTER-RACE FUNCTION  Weather permitting, a beach BBQ will be held following each race to which all entrants and other WBC club members and friends are warmly invited.  Details from any Sailing Committee member on the day.

18. PRIZES AND PRIZEGIVING  Day Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and spot prizes will be awarded provisionally at the beach BBQ following the race.  All entrants eligible for day prizes.  Trophies will be awarded to the winners of all races as detailed in the SCHEDULE OF RACES.  Only series entrants are eligible for series prizes.
